Two barely-explored frontiers — the crushing deep ocean and the infinite void of space — collide in a surreal, shimmering moment. This is the piece that taught me how far texture and metallic leaf can take a painting.

My first painting where I let texture and metallic leaf run the show. Thick pastes built up the canvas first, then gold and copper leaf on the swirling portals that feel ready to swallow the viewer into the deep sea or deep space.
